5. Medications
There are certain medications that may be linked to increasing the risk of developing the antiphospholipid syndrome. One such medicine is an anti-epileptic medicine. This medicine is used to help reduce the risk of seizures, but in return may cause a person to develop the antiphospholipid syndrome.
Another medication that has been linked to an increase in the risk of developing antiphospholipid syndrome is the oral contraceptive pill. Many women take this pill as a way to prevent pregnancy. When a woman takes the oral contraceptive pill for a long period of time it may increase her risk of developing the antiphospholipid syndrome. Birth control pills are designed to prevent a woman from becoming pregnant through the use of hormones.
Changing the hormones in a woman’s body can increase the risk of other health-related issues, including the development of the abnormal antibodies associated with antiphospholipid syndrome.
