6. Neurological Symptoms
There are some neurological impairment symptoms that you might notice when you have low blood calcium levels. A low calcium level can affect several different functions within the body including the nervous system, which works hand-in-hand with the brain. Some of the neurological symptoms that you might notice if you have a calcium deficiency include memory loss and mental confusion.
This makes it difficult to distinguish from dementia or Alzheimer’s. The best way to know whether these neurological symptoms are due to calcium or something else is to look at the other symptoms listed here and seeing if any of them are present as well. Other neurological symptoms can include delusions, hallucinations and depression, but the good news is, these symptoms will disappear almost immediately is calcium levels are returned to normal. This can be an important diagnostic tool as well.
