4. Birth injury is another way a Clavicle Fracture can occur.
In the birth canal, force can cause the infant to break the bone in the shoulder area. The doctors and nurses may not know until they realize the infant won’t stop crying. The arm may be hanging and this may alert the medical professional. The infant needs to be handled with care during this time. The medical professionals may place arm protection on the baby so that he or she doesn’t move it. When the baby is handled, the baby has to be picked up on the opposite side.
Parents may be limited to how often they can hold their baby since the parents tend to hold the baby tight. They might forget what the medical professional has told them on how to hold the baby. Once the fracture heals, the baby can home with its parents, but the doctor will tell the parents what they need to do.
