4. Bruising
Bruising isn’t a common symptom, but it can occur in cases of telangiectasia. The bruising may be hard to see at times because of the severity of the spider veins, or it may be slightly lighter or darker than the lines themselves. The bruising may or may not cause pain. Bruising alongside spider veins can be a sign that there is another problem and can be a symptom of hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia, which is rare, but also life-threatening if not treated. This condition can cause the blood veins to burst, which can cause severe bleeding and other complications.
If you notice bruising around your spider veins or feel that the veins are big, bulging, and sore, you should seek medical attention to ensure that you are not suffering from HHT or another more serious disorder.
A doctor can inspect the veins and determine if they are normal or a sign of something more serious. Your doctor can also talk to you about your treatment options.
