5. Catechins
Catechins are a form of polyphenols that provide green tea with incredibly powerful antioxidant benefits. This means that they can help the body to neutralize harmful free radicals that cause damage to the cells when they come into contact with them and which can lead to visible signs of aging (wrinkles) as well as potentially causing cancer if they are able to penetrate through to the DNA.
Catechins are just one of the ingredients in green tea that make it such a popular health food. One in particular – epigallocatechin gallate – has been subject to many studies and is thought to be beneficial in treating a wide number of different diseases.
