14 Symptoms of Pulmonary Edema

When fluid is trapped under the skin inside of the tissue it is called edema. One sure sign of edema is swelling. However, there are many other symptoms of edema as well. These symptoms depend on where the inflammation is located in the body. It is important to diagnose and treat the underlying cause for the edema.

While it is common to experience swelling from excessive fluid build up in your arms, hands, feet, ankles, and legs, it may also occur in the tongue or throat because of an allergy. A mosquito bite can cause edema, but this minor ailment will go away on its own and will not cause other symptoms.

A bee sting may cause an allergic reaction and can cause a number of different symptoms of edema as well as treatment options. It is important to know the different types of edema and be aware of some of the more serious symptoms of pulmonary edema.

1. Skin that is Swollen, Puffy, and Stretched

If you have noticed that there is a swelling within the tissue under the skin, you are suffering from edema. Most of the time edema will occur in the arms and the legs.

The swelling or puffiness can be the result of many different things. It can be caused by an injury to an area or it may stem from an allergic reaction to something. Another symptom that is associated with edema is skin that appears stretched or shiny. This skin symptom may also make a person feel like their skin is extremely tight in certain areas.

If you are experiencing any type of swelling in your hands, feet, arms, or legs it is important to see your doctor find out what the underlying cause for this may be. Swelling may be caused by something minor, but it could be the sign of something serious and proper treatment for it is necessary.
