5. A bulge near or on your shoulder can occur with a clavicle fracture.
It will look like it’s swollen, but in fact it’s a bulge. The bulge may hurt when you touch it. When you ice the area, be gentle. Always place a towel on the area before icing it. You don’t want to get frostbite. If it’s painful, take pain relievers. Only take the pain relievers as directed. The bulge will go away eventually as long as you take care of it.
The physical therapist will suggest things you can do to get rid of the bulge. You will also do exercises at the office. Besides exercises, massaging and electric therapy may be done. Placing a sling over the area will keep you from moving it. The more you move it, it will cause pain. Don’t try to use that side of your arm until it heals completely.
