Search Articles Here

Your skin is a very important organ in your body. In fact, it is the largest organ of the body and likely one that you do not think too much about until you have an issue such as a rash or a bruise. The skin provides the first line of defense when it comes to fighting off infectious diseases, which is why it is important to take care of it. However, there are times when you may develop some type of irritating rash or other issue with your skin.

When this happens it is important to take care of it right away before it enters the bloodstream or becomes a bigger issue for you. There are several of these skin disorders that you may know about such as skin cancer or psoriasis. With that being said, there are several unusual skin diseases that people may develop. Let’s take a closer look at 10 unusual skin diseases and what exactly they entail.

1. Vitiligo

Vitiligo occurs when the melanocytes of the skin are destroyed. The melanocytes are the cells in the skin that make up the pigment. Essentially, this is what gives your skin its color. When suffering from vitiligo a person will develop white patches on their skin. These white patches can appear anywhere on the skin, meaning that they may appear on any part of the body.

In addition, the skin condition also affects the mucous membranes along with the retinas of your eyes. Some of the symptoms of this skin condition include the patches of white skin all over the body and either gray or white hairs on these patches. In addition, the white patches may appear in the eyes and on the mucous membranes. If you notice that you have developed these white patches, it is a good idea to discuss it with your doctor to see if vitiligo is the cause and to determine if there is any treatment for it.
