4. Eating Acidic Foods
Acid can be tough on your teeth, gums, and mouth. Additionally, it is difficult to digest and can cause you to experience heartburn or acid reflux. This feels like someone has set your chest on fire. The burning sensation can be felt throughout the esophagus and entire digestive system. If you eat foods that have a high acid content such as citrus fruits like oranges, pineapples, lemons, and limes, you are at a higher risk of developing stomatitis. The acid from these foods that you eat regularly can cause the skin around and inside of your mouth to become irritated over time. This consistent irritation can cause the areas of your mouth to become more sensitive, resulting in mouth sores such as canker sores as well as other issues. If you are experiencing stomatitis, cutting out acidic foods from your diet can help alleviate some of the pain you are having.
