5. Honey or Lemon
Honey or lemon can be wonderful things to use on a sore throat due to tonsillitis. The thing about lemon is, you want to use it to make a tea rather than eating it raw or rubbing it on an affected area. Acidic foods like lemon can actually irritate the tonsils and the esophagus when they are eaten raw. The same goes for oranges and other acidic fruits.
There is a long list of acidic foods that you should avoid if you want to avoid irritating red and inflamed areas and making them more painful. But making a tea from lemon or honey can actually have a pretty good soothing effect on painful areas infected by viral or bacterial tonsillitis. One thing you do want to keep in mind is that you should never use this treatment on children less than one year of age because they can develop botulism in the digestive system.
