14 Home Remedies That Help Overcome Diverticulitis

Diverticulitis is a common condition. It occurs when diverticula, small pouches, develop in the lining of the colon or small intestine. This condition can be associated with a variety of symptoms, which can include moderate to severe abdominal pain and tenderness, bloating, fever, nausea, loss of appetite, diarrhea, and constipation, among others.

Though the exact cause of diverticulitis is unknown, it is believed that both diet and age play a big role in the development of this condition. People who are over the age of 50 are more prone to developing this condition, as are those who consume a diet that is low in fiber.

If you have been diagnosed with diverticulitis, it is very likely that your doctor will instruct you to avoid eating certain foods. Aside from avoiding certain foods, there are some other home remedies that can help you overcome diverticulitis. 

1. Allowing the Bowel to Rest

If you are suffering from diverticulitis, one of the fastest and best ways to heal is going put yourself on a liquid diet. This can be extremely helpful if you have a bowel obstruction or blockage. A liquid diet will give your bowel time to rest. A liquid diet will also eliminate any foods that may trigger inflammation.

The infection that is causing your illness and the inflammation of the digestive system will also be healed during this time. A liquid diet is also good for those who are underweight or malnourished. There are many great protein shakes and other supplements that can be used in order to ensure that your body is getting the nutrition that it needs without putting it through the stress of digesting tough foods.

Allowing your bowels to rest for a few days can go a long way when it comes to healing diverticulitis.
