2. Application of Heat and Cold
Severe physical changes to the body and bone structure aren’t the only ways in which polio will affect the body, and people who have contracted and survived a polio infection will often find that they still experience a lot of pain and discomfort in their muscles and joints even years or decades after the initial infection has occurred. This happens as an added effect of the infection, but also happens because of post-polio syndrome, where some of the initial symptoms might return years or decades afterward.
The application of heat and cold compresses to areas that hurt help for a lot more than just sportsmen who hurt after a bout of exercise. They can also help if you are experiencing muscle pain and tension due to any other variety of reasons, including the after-effects of suffering from a condition like polio.
Remember to ensure that it’s never excessively hot when applying heat.
