The only way to get the swelling down is by icing and taking pain relievers. It is a good idea to ice the area often. The more you do it, the more the swelling will go down. It is best to wear a sling and bandage it if the physical therapist requests it. When you place a bandage over it, it allows the swelling to go down. Just make sure the bandage isn’t tight. It will cause more pain and bruising.
The physical therapist may not want to do too many exercises with you until the swelling goes away. Electric therapy may be the best thing for you. This is where patches are placed over the clavicle area and electricity goes through the area. It’s not painful, but it will help with the pain and to relax your muscles.
