Osteomalacia is a common health condition that’s also referred to as ‘soft bones’ or rickets. It’s commonly seen where there is a nutritional deficiency or a lack of minerals, especially vitamin D and natural sunlight – and even though it’s more common in certain parts of the world than in others, this doesn’t mean that you aren’t at risk.

Symptoms of osteomalacia can include pain in the bones, muscle weakness and pain and an increased frequency of smaller fractures and breaks. 1. Vitamin Supplements

One of the primary causes of developing osteomalacia is a lack of the necessary vitamins that you require to keep your body in good condition – most commonly, osteomalacia is due to a lack of Vitamin D in the diet. This is the essential vitamin that you derive from exposure to sunlight and consuming especially brightly colored fruits and vegetables – and osteomalacia is only one of the potential health conditions that might arise due to a lack of Vitamin D in your diet.

The first thing that you should do if you notice a nutritional deficiency like this is to take a closer look at your diet to see what you can add or subtract to make it healthier; include foods that are rich in Vitamin D. Also include mineral supplements in your diet, particularly vitamin D supplements, though consult your doctor before you make any changes to your health.
