4. Bruising
Bruising is a sign of internal bleeding. While you may not break the skin with an avulsion fracture (this is called a compound fracture and is uncommon for this type of accident), you may still cause a lot of damage to the bone, the tendon, the muscle, and the surrounding tissue.
As such, this can cause a lot of blood to escape from the surrounding blood vessels and to enter the tissue. This can cause a lot of discoloration and the area will also become sore to the touch.
Be careful to look out for the difference between bruising and infection. Infection occurs when bacteria affect the area and this can then cause the tissue to become inflamed and to change color in a similar manner. Discoloration caused by infection can lead to the skin appearing very red, blue, or even black. It might also be warm to touch and may hurt when you place mild pressure on it.
