4. Medication
Although medication is a quick and effective way to relieve pain, it should be used as a last resort. Some medications can lead to physical or psychological addiction that can be hard to reverse. In addition, some treatments may have side effects, and long-term use of pain relievers can be harmful to the liver. If you feel that you will only use the pain reliever for a few days, choose a mild, over the counter pain reliever such as ibuprofen or naproxen sodium.
Even though these are milder than prescription pain relievers, they should not be used on a long-term basis because they may have an effect on the rest of the body. You can be judicious in the use of medications and only use pills when you are experiencing the most intense pain. If your pain does not subside, speak to a doctor about prescription medications.
