3. A blood clot in the kidney vein is another cause that can lead to nephrotic syndrome.
When a blood clot blocks a vein that is connected to the kidney, it can cause the condition. When a blood clot is in the kidney vein it is also known as renal vein thrombosis. If left untreated, it can cause a tumor to form on the kidneys, which can end up leading to cancer. When a person has nephrotic syndrome with a blood clot, the blood clot has to be treated first.
One medication that is used to treat the blood clot will be ACE and diuretics. These are the same medications that are used to treat nephrotic syndrome. This will allow the blood clot to go away and the doctor can give the person other medications that can treat the nephrotic syndrome unless the ACE and diuretic are helping on their own.
