Believe it or not, there are hundreds of causes for frequent urination, spanning from things like urinary tract infections, to enlarged prostates, certain types and doses of medications, right through to even more troubling things like tumor growths.

The cause of this frequent urination is important to decipher as in many cases, this particular cause will actually determine the type of treatment that is ultimately required. A lot of people still choose to head to the doctors with things like polyuria, whereas some people are starting to make a shift towards home remedies and things that happen more naturally.

Listed here are some different approaches and potential natural home remedies that a person could try in order to address the issue of frequent urination, prevent the development of potential complications and ultimately stem the flow.

Not everything will work for everybody and for every single case, and so the suggestions are only that, suggestions.

1. Pomegranate paste

Pomegranates can sometimes seem like the most pointless fruit to eat. All that effort of getting inside the fruit for a very small and quick reward can seem like a bit of a waste of time.

It can seem like a bit of waste of a resource too when the bulk of the item ends up in the trash or the compost. Well, how about using the skin of the pomegranate to make a home remedy for frequent urination conditions like polyuria? That could be a really good way to be economical with a pomegranate, whilst reaping huge health benefits in the process.

In order to prepare pomegranate paste, the skin needs to be removed and mashed up until it resembles a paste. This paste can then be diluted and mixed with water and a pinch of brown sugar if necessary. The mixture can be consumed twice a day for the best results.

2. Seeds

Seeds can be another incredible natural remedy for frequent urination, and you’re not just limited to one kind of seed here either. Fenugreek seeds can be ground into a powder, which can then be sweetened with honey or sugar. This powder can then be consumed daily in order to help address frequent urination.

Another type of seed which can be useful in the natural treatment of conditions like polyuria is sesame seeds. Sesame seeds can be bought separately and away from things like sesame seed bread, as long as you know where to shop. If you can’t find anywhere local to you that will sell sesame seeds on their own, you could always look to the internet for your supply source.

The sesame seeds can be consumed on their own to help address frequent urination and polyuria. Cumin seeds, when consumed with warm water, can also go about helping to address digestive problems which may cause polyuria.

3. Boiled spinach

If it was good enough for Popeye, which it surely was, then spinach should be good enough for you and your urine problems. Eating spinach before cooking is great for making the most of it’s nutrient and mineral content, but boiling the spinach is the best way to use it for its ability to control problems with urination.

The spinach can either be prepared for consumption on its own or as part of the greens that accompany a well-balanced meal. It really doesn’t matter how or when you consume the boiled spinach, as long as you’re consuming it twice a day. Doing so will help the body control either too much urination or not enough.

Consuming boiled spinach is the best way of achieving a natural balance with your urination. If you don’t like the taste of even boiled spinach, either grit your teeth and bear it, or take the extra preparation step of including it in a smoothie or a juice after it has been boiled.

4. Juices

There are a number of different juices which can help with urination problems. The first one to talk about is cranberry juice, as this juice contains bacteria-inhibiting properties. It is an excellent juice for reducing frequent urination and can be consumed every day.

It is a good idea to consume up to four ounces of pure cranberry juice if you’re looking to prevent urinary tract infections and the polyuria these can cause. Indian gooseberry juice is another juice that can help with polyuria. As it is a fantastic source of vitamin C, Indian gooseberry juice can help to boost the immune system as well as treating any potential urinary tract infections and related problems.

It is a potent anti-inflammatory. A person looking to juices to treat polyuria might also opt to try aloe vera juice, which aids in the reduction of inflammation, as well as helping to relieve any burning sensations which may occur during urination.

5. Bladder control exercises

Another way that a person can try and address their polyuria at home and without needing to visit a doctor is by practicing bladder control exercises. The best way to do this is by holding in the urine for longer and longer periods of time throughout the day. This can be a fine balancing act to play and a tightrope to walk through, as no one wants to get caught short and end up having an accident.

For this reason, it’s best to practice this type of bladder control exercise when you’re at home or in close proximity to the toilet. It’s also worth remembering that holding your urine in for too long can increase the likelihood of someone developing a urinary tract infection, and so if you are prone to this type of infection, it’s probably a good idea to stick to juices and pastes. Simply tightening and loosening the bladder and pelvic muscles can help too.

6. Eat more fruits

If you’re eating more fruit these days after the various campaigns to try and encourage people to eat more healthily, then there really isn’t much hope for you or your health. Sorry about that, but it really couldn’t be any easier.

Eat more fruit and the health benefits are so numerous and varied that you’d have to be crazy to avoid them. Some of the more popular choices of fruit that people consume regularly and in high quantities around the world include apples, raspberries, bananas, and cherries. This is interesting as these particular fruits help to relieve constipation.

The benefit of this is that constipation has the potential to bring about frequent urination and polyuria. In the UK, a campaign was launched to encourage people to eat 5 different types of fruit and vegetables a day, when in actual fact eating 10 different types would be the most helpful number to use.

7. Avoid alcohol

If you’re looking to avoid polyuria or other conditions that cause frequent urination, you may have to avoid alcohol altogether, as difficult as that might be. Even on a night out, drinking alcohol can cause frequent urination as you spend half of your time going back and forth to the restroom.

This isn’t even especially as a result of the alcohol percentage either, it’s mainly down to the fact that you’re taking on so much liquid. This then makes it seem pretty ironic how drinking alcohol can cause dehydration, but that’s another story. Imagine drinking 10 liters of soda, you just wouldn’t do it.

Why? Because you’d end up needing to go to the bathroom a heck of a lot of times. It really isn’t rocket science. Long term, drinking alcohol can cause frequent urination and polyuria to develop and stick around for way longer than they’re welcome. Avoid alcohol to avoid polyuria. Simple.

8. Monitor fluid intake

Generally, the more water you drink, the healthier your body will be and the better your organs will perform. Given that the human body is made up of so much water, it isn’t surprising to learn that we have to maintain a good supply to ensure good organ function.

It’s a pretty simple equation to understand until you start to include things like polyuria into the mix. Drinking too much water before bedtime can cause nocturia and bed wetting. Even as an adult, consuming too much water or fluids can cause accidents to happen. This isn’t to say that you should ignore the advice concerning drinking enough water, but that you should be careful to time the consumption of the water properly.

Don’t drink a couple of liters in the evening or late at night if you know you’re going to be hitting the hay in the near future. It’s a recipe for disaster.
