At whatever stage you’re at in life, it has probably dawned on you from time to time that people come in all different shapes and sizes. Whether you realized it for the first time as a wide-eyed child, or as a self-conscious teenager, or even as a reflective adult, there can be no getting away from the fact that we are all different.

Whilst we are all unique though, there are certain features or characteristics of certain body types that distinguish them from other types. If a person has a much higher percentage of muscle when compared with body fat, for instance, they may well have what is commonly referred to as a mesomorph body type.

People who can be as classed as having a mesomorphic body type may not have any trouble at all in gaining or losing weight.

Here are 8 interesting facts about the mesomorph body type.

1. Square-shaped head

Yes, you read that right, people with a mesomorph body type may well end up presenting with a rather square-shaped head. Think of it however you like, the easiest way to describe that head is like a square.

Now, we’re not talking about Spongebob Squarepants levels of the square here, as that’s purely a work of fiction and anyone with a head like that should head straight to the emergency room. The type of square-shaped head we’re talking about here is one that seems to lack the smooth oval shape that most people have.

The gentle lines that go from the top of the skull down to the base of the chin are replaced with thick-set features and wide bones. Maybe describing someone as looking like they stepped out of a pixelated retro video game would be received as offensive, or maybe they’d take it as a compliment. Try it out, but be ready to leave quickly!

2. Muscular chest and shoulders

Okay, whilst the first fact about the mesomorph body type hardly makes it a desirable body type to be lumbered with, this second feature is something that everyone would want.

People with the mesomorph body type typically present with a muscular looking chest and shoulders, whether or not they work out much. Obviously, if someone who is predisposed to having that type of body were to be the kind of person to work out regularly, then their muscular chest and muscular shoulders would only become even more muscular.

People with the mesomorph body type seem to pile on muscle a lot more quickly than people without it and so achieving that wide frame can come relatively easily and very quickly too. Think of Arnold Schwarzenegger and you’re getting close to the image of a person with the mesomorph body type. Well, that might be an extreme example but you get the idea anyway.

3. Large heart

You might be reading that and feeling all sentimental, like people with the mesomorph body type could make for some of the most romantic people in the world. You might be dreaming about falling into their gigantic arms and listening to them recite sweet sonnets for hours whilst feeding you the finest chocolates known to man, upon a bed laden with red roses.

As lovely thought as that might be, we hate to break it to you that the large heart found in people with the mesomorph body type is a large heart in the literal sense, as opposed to the metaphorical sense.

We hate to burst your bubble like that and no one is saying that the two are mutually exclusive, it’s just an important line to draw at this point, so no one is left in the dark. You might find a muscle-bound hunk who writes love poems, keep on looking.

4. Muscular arms and legs

Muscles, muscles, muscles, as far as the eye can see. That’s what you’re getting if you’ve got the mesomorph body type, you lucky thing. Think of a soccer player’s thighs and Popeye’s arms and you’re probably pretty close to nailing the profile of someone with the mesomorph body type. That might be your ideal version of yourself or your ideal image of a lover, it doesn’t really matter and this list is just here to give you the interesting facts,

There are some people who can’t seem to build muscle on their arms and legs, no matter what they do. Mesomorphs find that exactly the opposite is true and that they can build muscle in the arms and legs with ease.

Many people with this body type find that they are especially suited to certain roles or positions in a variety of sports. Playing in the pack of the front row in rugby is the one that springs to mind.

5. Even weight distribution

This refers to the even weight distribution that people with mesomorph body type have between the upper and the lower half of their bodies. If they were a punching bag, they’d be great for training boxers, as the weight balance would mean that even when they were hit incredibly hard, they’d spring back up just as quickly.

There were toys around in the ’70s and the 80’s called weeds. Their tag line was that they wobbled but they never fell down, and once again it was all down to their lovely even weight distribution, just like the one that mesomorphs enjoy. So there you have it, another true but virtually useless fact about people with the mesomorph body type that you didn’t need to know, but now you know.

Sometimes you just need to learn a little bit about body types and what people with those body types may look like, just because it’s interesting.

6. Mesomorphs can eat what they want

How many of you reading this are now shaking your fists in anger at all those mesomorphs in the world who can eat whatever they like? All of you? Good, and it’s no wonder either, as many people with the mesomorph body type may have absolutely no trouble whatsoever in eating whatever they want and whenever they want.

The reason for this is that no matter what they choose to eat, and no matter the quantity they choose to eat it in, they can always reverse the effects as their body type means that they may lose weight much easier than other people.

They simply have to up the cardio and ease up on the fats and carbs, and before long their body will be transforming before their very eyes, back to its former glory, or at least back to how it looked before they allowed themselves to become fat pigs for a short while.

7. There is a catch to that

On the flip side of the coin, there is some bad news to consider for mesomorphs which are worth considering as well. It is true that they may lose weight fairly easily, but it is also true that these people could potentially gain weight just as quickly.

Those people with mesomorph body types who are trying their best to stay trim and slender may want to think about the food they put in their mouths, especially if they’re not prepared to put in the work to shift the weight later on. If you’re the sort of person who is happy to move between chiseled and sexy, and fat and chubby every now and then, then the ease at which mesomorphs can either gain or lose weight may be something you love about the body type.

For people who are more concerned with maintaining that ideal body shape on a much more long term basis, this may be something you consider to be a disadvantage.

8. Diet

The diet that people with the mesomorph body type would be best served following is pretty easy to break down into categories. In terms of protein, the plate should be one-third full of things like eggs, white meat including chicken, oily fish, beans and lentils or high protein dairy products like Greek yogurt.

When it comes to fruit and vegetables on another third of the plate, it is obvious that this third of the plate is incredibly important for whatever type of body you have, and that is no different for people who have the mesomorph body type.

It’s a good idea to choose whole fruits and vegetables with the skins still on, as opposed to processed fruits and vegetables that might contain added salt or added sugar. The final third of the plate should be made up of whole grains and fats such as brown rice and oatmeal. These may seem like obvious choices and that’s because they are.
