Your skin is a very important organ in your body. In fact, it is the largest organ of the body and likely one that you do not think too much about until you have an issue such as a rash or a bruise. The skin provides the first line of defense when it comes to fighting off infectious diseases, which is why it is important to take care of it. However, there are times when you may develop some type of irritating rash or other issue with your skin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When this happens it is important to take care of it right away before it enters the bloodstream or becomes a bigger issue for you. There are several of these skin disorders that you may know about such as skin cancer or psoriasis. With that being said, there are several unusual skin diseases that people may develop. Let\u2019s take a closer look at 10 unusual skin diseases and what exactly they entail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Vitiligo<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Vitiligo <\/a>occurs when the melanocytes of the skin are destroyed. The melanocytes are the cells in the skin that make up the pigment. Essentially, this is what gives your skin its color. When suffering from vitiligo a person will develop white patches on their skin. These white patches can appear anywhere on the skin, meaning that they may appear on any part of the body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, the skin condition also affects the mucous membranes along with the retinas of your eyes. Some of the symptoms of this skin condition include the patches of white skin all over the body and either gray or white hairs on these patches. In addition, the white patches may appear in the eyes and on the mucous membranes. If you notice that you have developed these white patches, it is a good idea to discuss it with your doctor to see if vitiligo is the cause and to determine if there is any treatment for it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

2. Tungiasis<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

There is a certain species of fleas that can cause a person to develop a skin disease that is known as Tungiasis<\/a>. This skin disease occurs in many different countries. It can also be imported to other countries by people who are infected with the skin disease and then travel to other countries. Some of the symptoms of tungiasis include blisters, lesions, and ulcers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These will appear in areas of the skin where the fleas start to burrow. A person with tungiasis may also experience burning, itching, and pain in the area where they are infected. If tungiasis is not treated properly it can cause other issues to occur. This includes a loss of toe nails or even the toes. It may also cause a person to develop gangrene, tetanus, and severe infections. Other serious complications may occur as well if it is not treated correctly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

3. Pediculosis<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Body lice can be quite a nuisance. These small bugs can affect anyone of any age or gender and of any race. One of the skin diseases that is caused by body lice is called Pediculosis<\/a>. When this develops a person will likely start to itch. This will turn into a rash. The person who has body lice will then start to notice white dots all over their body. These white spots are actually nits. These nits then turn into live lice that will crawl all over your skin. When this happens, the skin may eventually start to thicken and then become discolored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This eventually will lead to open sores appearing all over the body. These tiny lice can go to any part of the skin and make their home there. It is important to make sure that you get proper treatment for pediculosis because if it is left untreated it can cause many other symptoms that are worse. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

4. Nummular Dermatitis<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Nummular dermatitis<\/a> is one of the skin diseases that has a set of lesion characteristics. The lesions of this skin disorder have a distinctive look. The lesions will either be a round or an oval shape. They may also burn a bit or itch. These symptoms often happen when the lesions are touched. When this skin diseases first starts a person may notice that there are small areas that become blistered and red.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These spots will then join together in order to create bigger patches. When it is left untreated this skin disorder will start to look a bit like a ringworm infection. The reason for this is because there is a distinct outer border of the lesion and a center that is clear. If you notice that you have a round or oval shaped lesion on your skin and it burns or itches, it is important to have it checked by your doctor to determine the exact cause and how it will be best treated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

5. Shingles<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If you are an adult who suffered through the chicken pox when you were younger, there is a chance that you could eventually come down with shingles. Shingles <\/a>is caused by reactivating the herpes zoster virus that is in your body. This virus causes chickenpox at first, but can then be reactivated in order to cause shingles. Shingles is a skin disease that can become quite serious. It can cause a person to experience horrible headaches, skin pain that is quite severe, fever, and an overall feeling of illness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is also tingling that occurs along the nerves. Shingles also causes a rash on the skin that appear as small reddish dots. It can cause a person to experience scabs when the blisters rupture and crust over. This rash also causes severe itching. It is important to make sure that you see your doctor if you develop any of these symptoms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

6. Seborrheic Keratosis<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

As you age your skin may start to become thicker. Seborrheic Keratosis<\/a> is one of the causes of this thickening of the skin. This is a skin disease that does not often occur in younger individuals, but there are times when it can. The symptoms of seborrheic keratosis may include small warts that become raised. These warts may be brown or yellow in color. It also may cause papules as well as excess skin pigment in certain areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some of the warts that develop may produce sebum. The growths that develop on the skin can become raised and may even become itchy and discolored. In addition, the skin growths may feel quite greasy. Unfortunately, for many people seborrheic keratosis is simply a part of life. It is something that just happens to the skin as it gets older. There are ways to avoid this skin disease including eating a healthy diet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

7. Jock Itch<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

When fungus enters the jock area an infection may occur. This infection is often referred to as jock itch<\/a>. Jock itch is very contagious and is often caused by wearing underwear that is too tight or becomes damp. Wearing tight underwear that is damp can also aggravate the symptoms of this disease. If you have developed jock itch you will likely first notice a red rash that is a bit scaly in your groin area. This rash will often spread from the groin to the upper area of your thighs and may even affect your buttocks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jock itch can cause a person to become extremely itchy in the jock area, which can be quite embarrassing as you simply need to scratch the itch when it occurs. If scratching the area breaks the skin it can lead to infections. This is why it is important to notice this skin disease early and to treat it properly as you do not want it to spread further. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

8. Lichen Planus<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Lichen Planus<\/a> can affect the skin as well as the mucous membranes found all over the body. This is a skin disease that has many symptoms. The main symptom of Lichen Planus is a rash that appears on the body. The rash is shiny and is raised. This rash will often become very itchy. There may also be bumps that appear on the skin. These bumps can be either purple or pink in color.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A person with lichen planus may also have scaly patches on the skin. A rash may appear in the mouth and ulcers within the mouth may also occur. There could be blue areas that appear in the mouth and on your cheeks and tongue. Lichen planus may also cause a person to develop the rash and the itching in the vaginal or penile areas. 9. Photoallergy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The sun can cause many different types of skin issues. Sunburn occurs when a person spends too much time in the sun without any type of protection. Another issue that may develop when out in the sun is known as photoallergy. This is a specific reaction of the skin to the sun or more specifically, the UV rays<\/a> that the sun gives off. When a person develops photoallergy the skin may start to rash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This rash will be red and can be welted or raised. It can cause the skin to also become quite itchy as well. This is similar to other types of allergies. There are several medications and medical conditions that can cause this skin disorder to occur. The rash that develops from this condition is a form of contact dermatitis. Some people who suffer from this will have skin that peels and may even become nauseous. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

10. Scleroderma<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Scleroderma <\/a>is actually a combination of several different skin conditions. When these all occur at the same time it can cause the skin to harden. Other tissues in the body may harden as well. The skin will feel almost like a hard shell when a person is suffering from scleroderma. If you have scleroderma you may have skin that is thickened, shiny, and stiff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You may also experience swelling in the fingers or possibly in the toes. Hyper pigmentation is also often a symptom of this disease. Scleroderma can also cause a person to develop other symptoms as well. Since the skin disease can affect other tissues within the body, any tissue or organ can be affected by this disease. It is important to make sure that you get the symptoms of this disease treated as soon as possible as it can cause all sorts of issues within the body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\r\n
