Klebsiella pneumoniae is a bacterial infection that is found in the intestines and feces. When it’s in the intestines, there is no cause for concern because it isn’t harmful. Once it spreads to other parts of the body, it can become severe. If you have a sickness, the risk of getting an infection is much higher. Klebsiella pneumoniae can affect different parts of your body, including the eyes, liver, brain, and lungs.

If Klebsiella pneumoniae isn’t severe, it can be treated at home with antibiotics. On the other hand, if it becomes severe, hospitalization is needed. When it comes to antibiotics, it may not work for some people. A different antibiotic will be needed. The reason that it may not work for some people is because of their weak immune systems. Healthy people are unlikely to get klebsiella pneumoniae.

There are eight common causes of Klebsiella pneumonia that you need to know about.

1. Pneumonia is a common cause of Klebsiella pneumoniae.

Pneumonia occurs in children and adults who have a weak immune system. The symptoms can appear suddenly. It can affect the lungs at first and make the person feel ill. The sight of food can make the person sicker. If anything is eaten, he or she will vomit. Vomiting may not be able to be controlled. Everything on the body hurts. In children, hospitalization is needed, as well as for some adults.

Most people can just go to their primary care doctor or pediatrician and get written prescriptions for the medicine to take care of the infection. There are two ways pneumonia can be contracted. One is in a community setting, like the mall, school, or subway.

DIYpioneer37Hospital-acquired pneumonia occurs in nursing homes and hospitals. In a hospital setting, the medical staff may not practice good hygiene, which can cause the patients to contract different illnesses.

2. Urinary tract infection is a common cause of getting Klebsiella pneumoniae.

If klebsiella pneumoniae gets into the urinary tract, it can cause a urinary tract infection. The urinary tracts include a number of organs, such as the kidneys, bladder, urethra, and ureters. Older women are prone to getting a urinary tract infection. Urinary tract infection occurs when bacteria get into the urinary tract. A urinary tract infection can occur by using a catheter for a long period of time. That’s why it’s important for medical staff and others to change catheters often.

A lot of the times, urinary tract infections don’t have any symptoms. A person can have klebsiella pneumoniae for a long time. The longer the infection is in the body, the worse the symptoms will be. When symptoms are present, it can cause burning and pain when urinating and frequent urination. Sometimes blood may be in the urine.

3. Soft tissue or skin infection can cause Klebsiella pneumoniae.

When there is an injury or surgery Klebsiella pneumoniae can get into the skin. It is a good idea to check wounds often. If they get dirty, bacteria can enter the skin. Some people with wounds, don’t clean them often. If they happen to get around a person with Klebsiella pneumonia, they will be able to contract it quicker. Skin and soft tissue infections need to be looked at by a doctor. A skin infection may cause swelling and pain.

Over-the-counter pain medication, such as Motrin and Tylenol may be able to get rid of the pain temporarily, but it can make the symptoms worse since it’s a bacterial infection. Antibiotics are needed to treat the infection. The wound needs to be treated as well. The doctor needs to tell the person how to take care of the wound, so bacteria doesn’t enter it again.

""

4. Meningitis is a common cause of Klebsiella pneumoniae.

Meningitis is rare, but when it occurs, it is usually contracted in a hospital setting. When meningitis causes Klebsiella pneumoniae, the fluid around the brain and spinal cord become infected. When meningitis is caused by the bacteria infection it can occur suddenly. A high fever and stiff neck are some of the symptoms that will occur suddenly. With meningitis, you may vomit, become confused, sensitive to light.

In order to get treatment for meningitis, hospitalization is needed. Meningitis can be prevented by getting immunizations. Children can get the disease as well. It’s important for parents to make sure their child has their immunizations done before entering school.

Since the immune system is weak regular antibiotics will not work. Other antibiotics will need to be given. IVs and fluids will be administered through the veins to lower the fever and to keep the person hydrated.

5. Endophthalmitis can cause Klebsiella pneumoniae.

When the infection enters the blood, it can go to the eyes and cause endophthalmitis. The eyes will become inflamed in the white part. With endophthalmitis, besides redness, the eyes can become painful and cause blurred vision. Even if you wear eyeglasses or contacts, your eyes will still become affected.

An eye specialist won’t be able to do anything with your eyes when you have endophthalmitis. Only a doctor can prescribe the right medication to heal the inflammation in the eyes. The best medicine for eye relief is rest. Keep the eyes closed as much as possible. Make sure you don’t lie on your eyes because it can more pain and redness.

If you need to go out for anything, wear sunglasses. The sun can irritate the eyes more. Once endophthalmitis and the bacterial infection heals, try to take steps to prevent it from coming back.

""

6. Pyogenic liver abscess is a common cause of getting Klebsiella pneumoniae.

Klebsiella pneumonia will affect the liver. This will cause pyogenic liver abscess. Sometimes there is a legion that is pus-filled. Pyogenic liver abscess usually affects people who have been using antibiotics for a long period of time and diabetics.

Some of the symptoms that will occur are diarrhea, vomiting, and pain in the upper right part of the abdomen. When you have diarrhea, the abdomen will hurt. This is a sign to let you know you need to make a bowel movement.

A lot of the times when you can’t make a bowel movement, it will come out the other way causing you to vomit. The more you vomit and make a bowel movement, your other organs will become affected. Antibiotics can clear up the symptoms associated with pyogenic liver abscess. You’ll just need to take them as directed to reap the full benefit.

""

7. Blood infection can cause Klebsiella pneumoniae.

Klebsiella pneumoniae can enter the bloodstream and cause a bacteria called bacteremia. When it enters your bloodstream, it can affect the other organs. The lungs are the common cause of the bacterial infection entering the blood. The symptoms will appear suddenly, such as shaking and chills. Rest and antibiotics can cure this problem. If antibiotics don’t work, you’ll need to go to the emergency room.

A blood infection is serious since it can cause the other organs to become infected. The hospital staff will take X-rays and blood tests to find out what illness you have. The hospital staff may want you to stay in the hospital for a few days if the bacteria infection has spread to your other organs. IVs will be placed in the veins, to keep you hydrated and treat the infection. Antibiotics should be continued until the bacterial infection goes away.

""

8. Person-to-person contact is a common cause of Klebsiella pneumoniae.

Kissing, for example, can cause Klebsiella pneumoniae. You may not know that the other person is sick or yourself and when saliva is mixed, sickness will occur. It can be difficult to know if a person is sick or not. Sometimes symptoms don’t occur until days later. When it does occur, the symptoms may be worse. Some symptoms that a person will have include, chills, vomiting, and a fever.

In order to find out how you got the illness is finding out if your partner has been sick. If the symptoms are unbearable, take a trip to the emergency room. If your partner is having symptoms, he or she needs to go with you. The bacterial infection won’t go away on its own. Antibiotics are the only medicine that will cure it. In some cases, a stronger medicine is needed since some people’s bodies don’t respond to regular antibiotics.
