Swelling is common because of the injury. When swelling occurs, place ice over the area several times a day. Taking over-the-counter Motrin and Tylenol will help with the swelling. A thick bandage compresses the swelling to help it to go down. Don’t tie the bandage too tight because it will cause more pain and swelling. In a few days, the swelling should go down.
When using a bandage change it often because germs can get underneath it. Wash the area often after placing the bandage over the affected area. When it’s swollen, you will feel some pain. Don’t touch it, unless you have to. The swelling may get bigger if you do so.
It may be difficult to put clothes over the hip because of the swelling and pain. It’s best to wear loose-fitting clothing until it heals.
