16 Known Symptoms of Femur Fracture

A femur fracture is when the bone breaks, crushes, or cracks. It has also been called a hip fracture. A femur fracture is difficult to occur. It usually caused by a high-impact force, including a vehicle accident, gunshot wound to the thigh area, or falling hard on a surface. When a femur fracture occurs, surgery may be needed.

If some cases, it can be treated without surgery. Some ways to treat a femur fracture is through physical therapy and RICE, which is rest, ice, compression, and elevation. Most people are unaware of when they have a femur fracture. They will experience pain but may believe it’s something else. When you have a femur fracture, there are symptoms to look out for just in case it happens to you.

Here are eight known symptoms of a femur fracture you need to be aware of. It can save your hip and life. 

1. Pain in your thigh area is a known symptom of a femur fracture. 

The pain will be excruciating. One way to help the pain is taking Tylenol and Motrin until you’re able to get to a doctor. The best medicine you can give to your hip by resting. Stop all activities that you were doing and rest the area.

In a week, try to walk to see if you experience any pain. If you do, let it rest longer. Don’t force to put pressure on your hip because it can make it worse. Icing the affected area will work as well. Ice the area several times a day, especially if the pain is intense. Ice the area for about 10 to 15 minutes. The area of pain will feel numb each time you ice it.

Let the area rest during this time as well. Don’t try to move it because the pain has gone away.
