3. Application of Ice
Applying ice and pressure is one of the first things that EMTs, nurses, and doctors are trained to do when they see a fracture or break. This is because of the fact that this can drastically reduce the initial pain and swelling when an injury has just happened – and of course, this doesn’t mean that you’ll have to wait for a doctor to do it. If you have recently injured the foot, apply ice as fast as possible in order to help the injury – then, seek medical attention in order to establish the extent of the injury.
Ice can also help during the six to eight week healing period, and might sometimes be a great help for reducing associated pain in the case of previous injuries that flare up years after the original injury took place. For this, rather than using ice, consider investing in a few ice packs that are designed to last.
