2. Weight loss
The thyroid is the butterfly-shaped gland at the front of the neck. It releases T4, T3, and thyroid-stimulating hormone. People who are dealing with Graves’ disease or hyperthyroidism find that the thyroid becomes dysfunctional, resulting in the onset of hyperthyroidism. Patients who are dealing with this disorder experience and increase in metabolic rate.
As a result of the increase in metabolism, the patient may find that they start to lose bodyweight. This situation occurs, even though the patient is continuing to eat normally. Hyperthyroidism does not play a role in stimulating the appetite. Therefore, the patient may continue to lose weight, but not notice any symptoms of an increase in hunger.
The weight loss will continue until the patient receives medical treatment to balance thyroid hormone levels in the body. However, after receiving treatment, the patient will start to return to a healthy body mass index for their height and genetic profile.
