2. Increase Vitamin C Intake
There has been evidence suggesting that increased intake of vitamin C could reduce the frequency of urinary tract infections and lower the odds of developing one throughout the course of your life. Vitamin C is able to increase the acidity levels in your urine which kills off any bacteria that might have otherwise caused a urinary tract infection if left to grow.
A study conducted in 2007 examined urinary tract infections in pregnant women and checked if daily ingestion of 100 milligram-dosage vitamin C supplements would have any positive effect. The results showed that vitamin C holds protective capabilities, and was able to reduce the risk of developing a urinary tract infection by over half in comparison to the control group who did not take any vitamin C supplements.
The study did not specify as to whether the control group was given placebo pills though. Still, adding fruits such as lemons or oranges to your diet could help reduce the odds of developing a urinary tract infection and will also protect you from other diseases.
