Boils are a bump that is located under the skin. These bumps are often red in color and filled with pus. The boil will continue to grow until it is drained. These bumps can be quite painful. They are caused by a bacteria that inflames and infects the hair follicles. Some can get to be as large as a baseball. The area of the skin around the boil can become red and painful as well. Boils should not be picked at or squeezed.
If it is not drained properly it can cause an infection in the areas of the skin nearby or even push the infection deeper into the skin, causing more boils to appear. If drainage of a boil is necessary a doctor will make an incision on it and then use sterile gauze to remove the additional pus. Most boils can be treated at home using some of the following home remedies.
1. Apply Heat
If you are suffering from a boil, one of the things that you can do in order to help relieve some of the pain and swelling is to apply some heat to the area surrounding the boil. The heat will improve the circulation to the area. This improved circulation will help to bring more antibodies and white blood cells to the area.
This will help to fight off the infection more quickly. Applying heat to the area where the boil is located is one of the best and easiest home remedies that you can use. Take a warm compress and apply it to the area for about twenty minutes and then remove. You should apply this warm compress to the boil about three or four times each day until the boil is gone. The amount of time that it takes to get rid of will vary.
