2. Genetics
There have been studies that suggest that gum recession could also be partially caused by the genetics of a particular patient. Some people could be predisposed to developing chronic gum recession from misalignment or gum disease based on their genes, especially if one or both of their parents suffered from the same condition. Beyond genes, parents can also pass their germs onto their children which can lead to various dental problems including gum recession.
If parents have oral problems, they should refrain from sharing utensils with their children and should undergo treatment immediately to ensure that they don’t infect their kids and cause severe dental issues. While the evidence suggesting that genetics can play a key role in the development of gum recession, the studies are still in their early stage and will need more time to verify their data before they can make bolder statements. Nonetheless, if your parents suffered from gum recession, it certainly couldn’t hurt to get yourself checked out.
