14 Simple Steps to Get Rid of Jock Itch

Search Articles Here

An infection caused by a fungus, the so-called Jock Itch gets its name due to the fact that it is commonly seen amongst active people who tend to sweat profusely during sports. Despite the name though, anyone can develop this infection, in much the same way that one doesn’t have to be an athlete in order to develop the Athlete’s foot.

Redness, flakiness, peeling, or cracking of the skin are amongst the symptoms of Jock Itch, with the groin, thigh, and buttocks area most likely to affect. The associated rash can be circular in appearance with a clearly defined or slightly raised edge. Often itchy, stingy, and uncomfortable, Jock Itch is no laughing matter for anyone struggling to fight it off.

A fungus that thrives in damp and warm environments, the condition isn’t usually dangerous, though it is contagious and so getting it under control is a priority for anyone with the condition. Here are 8 simple steps to help achieve that.

1.    Keep the groin area clean

It sounds like it should be so simple, keeping the groin area nice and clean, yet so many people negate this seemingly obvious task. Wearing the same pair of underpants for a couple of days straight is one sure-fire way to keep the groin area dirty, and for a lot of athletes in college, this laundry averse technique is well used. For many, it isn’t a problem, until it is.

Aside from wearing the same pair of briefs for a few consecutive days being disgusting, it is also conducive to the development of the condition causing fungus. It’s basic personal hygiene essentially, but washing the body daily, and after exercise, is a simple way of ensuring that the groin area is kept squeaky clean. If you haven’t got time for a shower, or if facilities are limited, a quick stand up wash with a couple of baby wipes won’t hurt as an alternative every now and then, just don’t allow this to become the norm.
