14 Physical Anorexia Symptoms

Anexoria Nervosa is an eating disorder that affects millions. It is usually referred to simply as anorexia, and it is characterized by the irrational and intense fear that sufferers have of gaining weight. This fear is so prevalent in their lives and so pervasive that they take extreme steps in order to ensure not only avoidance in weight gain but also weight loss; even when they do not need to lose weight.

People that have anorexia limit their consumption of food drastically and become extremely thin. Often, this illness starts in adolescence, although it definitely continues into adulthood and it usually happens in women more than men. The faster that an eating disorder starts being treated; the more effective the treatment will be and that’s why you should know about these physical symptoms of anorexia. If you find yourself or someone else experiencing some of the symptoms, then you should try to get them help right away.

1. Weight Loss

Weight loss should be a pretty obvious symptom anorexia, but what may shock you is just how extreme weight loss for someone has anorexia can go. If you have a friend you suspect may have anorexia, then you have probably never seen them without layers of clothing on to hide their body. That’s because people with anorexia typically lose way more weight than is healthy and they hide it from others.

In their mind of course, it is not enough weight loss and they are not thin enough, but for others, even a glance can determine that the weight loss that the person is experiencing is extremely unhealthy. You may remember shocking pictures of celebrities that have anorexia and how people couldn’t understand how someone not thin was able to continue fooling themselves into thinking that they needed to lose more weight. That’s exactly what makes anorexia so insidious.
