A person who is suffering from polydipsia and is not institutionalized can also monitor their fluid intake and restrict how much fluids they are taken in. It is important to make sure that you are taking in enough fluids in order to remain hydrated, but not too much to overdo it.
Drinking too much water can lead to water poisoning, which can cause numerous unwanted symptoms and possibly even death. Restricting your fluids throughout the day, even if you are feeling very thirst can help the body to reset.
