2. Joint pain
Another symptom that could be caused by spinal meningitis is joint pain. Seeing as most cases of spinal meningitis — and meningitis in general — in the US are a result of viral causes, it’s not surprising that joint pain would manifest as a symptom. After all, whenever your body is fighting a viral infection it will attempt to kill the invaders with heat, resulting in a fever.
This inflammation along with the increase in body temperature will lead to joint pain in most cases. It’s worth noting that we’re referring to unexplained joint pain. If you’ve just spent a day at the gym working out then you shouldn’t be surprised if your joints are sore. However, if you haven’t had too much physical exertion but notice a sudden wave of joint pain then it may be caused by your body trying to fight off meningitis.
