14 Frequent Signs of Sarcoidosis

Search Articles Here

Sarcoidosis is an inflammatory disease that can affect virtually any region of your body. The affected area will see rapid growth of granulomas — inflammatory cells — in concentrated areas.

The lungs and lymph nodes are the areas that are most prominently affected by sarcoidosis. That being said, other regions of your body may also be affected such as the skin, eyes, heart, nervous system, and other organs.

Doctors are yet to find the exact cause for sarcoidosis but some have suggested that it may be due to a combination of bodily responses to foreign substances and genetic predisposition. As of the current date, doctors haven’t found a cure for sarcoidosis.

That being said, many people can live relatively normal lives through treatment. Early diagnosis is essential to employing effective treatment. That being the case, here are eight common signs of sarcoidosis that you should look out for.

1. Fatigue

One of the first symptoms that you’ll likely notice from sarcoidosis is fatigue. This is due to the fact that your immune system will be working overtime. Sarcoidosis leads to the inflammation of various parts of your body. All this activity is sapping energy and thus leaving you more fatigued. The onset of fatigue as a result of sarcoidosis is often acute — i.e. sudden. You could feel totally fine one day and then wake up feeling very fatigued the next without any clear reason.

If you went to the gym the day before and lifted some weights then feeling fatigued is to be expected, but if your diet and level of exercise haven’t changed yet you still feel more tired all of a sudden then it may be due to sarcoidosis. If you notice this wave of sudden fatigue, especially in conjunction with the other signs on this list then you should get yourself checked for sarcoidosis.
