3. Skin Cancer
Melanoma is one of the leading causes of death in the United States. Every day, doctors diagnose around 9,500 Americans with some form of skin cancer. Most cases of the disease are not cancerous, and the patient does not run the risk of the lesion turning cancerous if they receive treatment in time.
Doctors remove cancerous moles and lesions from the skin using a sharp scalpel. The physician then sends the sample to a laboratory for testing. The lab looks for any cancer cells in the tissue sample before notifying the doctor of the findings.
If the patient does have a cancerous lesion, they will require surgery to remove the affected area of the skin. Some patients that develop skin cancer around the eyelids may end up producing the onset of ectropion as well. Each situation is different, and the affected individual needs to rely on the advice of their doctor for treatment.
