It’s all about the active sulfur compound in it called allicin. It is suggested that allicin can protect against atherosclerosis, or the narrowing of artery walls due to plaque buildup. Related to the onion and leek, garlic can be consumed in the raw, cooked with food, or taken as a supplement.
