However, older men can develop this form of cancer as well. For the past several decades the rate for this type of cancer has been on the rise in the United States as well as in several other countries. There are several types of testicular cancer that a male may develop. Seminomas are typically limited to the testes and found in men in their 30s through 40s. It is a slow-growing type of cancer.

Non-seminomas are typically made from more than one type of cell and tend to grow and spread more quickly. Here are 8 tips that all men should consider in order to help prevent the development of testicular cancer.

1. Regular Self Exams

While doing a regular self-exam of the testes is not going to prevent a person from getting testicular cancer, it can help as it can allow a person to be diagnosed at an early stage. The earlier this type or any type of cancer is found, the better the results will be.

A self-exam should be done after a warm bath or shower. The warm water will help to relax the skin located on the scrotum. This makes it easier to feel for anything unusual such as a lump. Use both hands in order to examine the testes. Make sure that you examine each one individually.

The index and the middle finger are placed under the testicle with the thumb on top. Next, roll the testicle between the fingers and the thumb and not anything that is not normal. This could be a lump or fluid. Report anything that you find to your doctor.
